CBT Therapy

Your partner in building healthier thoughts and habits

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy. It encompasses a range of talking therapies based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, what we do, and how our bodies feel are all connected. If we change one of these, we can alter all the others. When we’re feeling low or upset, we often fall into patterns of thinking and responding that can worsen how we feel. CBT works to help us notice and change problematic thinking styles or behaviour patterns so we can feel better.

CBT is effective for a wide range of people and problems and is widely recommended by national treatment guidelines across the UK, EU, and North America.

CBT is a team effort. You and your therapist will work together to set goals and find solutions.

What happens and what to expect during our CBT sessions?

I usually schedule a face-to-face or an online session to meet with clients once a week or every 2 weeks, depending on their individual needs and circumstances. A course of treatment typically lasts between 6 and 20 sessions, with each session lasting 50 minutes.

During our sessions, we’ll work together to break down your problems into separate parts, such as your thoughts, physical sensations, and behaviours. We’ll analyse these areas to identify patterns that may be unhelpful or unrealistic and explore how they interact with each other and impact you. I’ll then guide you in finding ways to change these unhelpful thoughts and behaviours.

Once we identify areas for change, I’ll encourage you to practise these new approaches in your daily life, and we’ll review your progress in our next session.

The goal of therapy is to equip you with skills you can use in your everyday life, empowering you to manage challenges and prevent them from negatively affecting you, even after our sessions have ended.
